Grandma Eva's Chocolate Chip Cookies

My son recently celebrated his 8th Birthday. Eight, now just how did that happen?!? I don't understand. Wasn't it only yesterday that he was born? Anyways a few days later he received this care package from his Great Grandma Eva.
He was ecstatic (except for the part where he had to wait to eat some until I could snap a few pictures). She's sort of the queen of cooking on my husband's side of the family. Her specialties include some German favorites such as kuchen, strudel, and stromboli, and of course, there's her cookies. I think everyone looks forward to receiving their special cookie package from Grandma Eva. It's such a special treat and a tradition that is treasured by her family! She is the sweetest lady. Sometimes I call her for recipe advice, especially when someone requests something they want made just like hers, like her baked rice, just so that I know they won't be disappointed if I make it differently for them. She's always ready to chat and willing to help so that her recipes can be enjoyed even when she's too far away to cook for her loved ones. What's more is that she just celebrated her 80th Birthday.

Happy Birthday Eva!!!

Grandma Eva's Chocolate Chip Cookies
*Recipe by Eva Erbele

1 cup vegetable oil
1/4 cup sugar
1 cup brown  sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 eggs
3 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup chocolate chips
Cream oil, sugars, and vanilla together until fluffy. Add eggs, mixing well. Sift together flour, baking soda, and salt; add to creamed mixture stirring well. Stir in chocolate chips. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 for 8-10 minutes. Enjoy!
Even though Eva shared her special recipe with me, I'm not sure they taste the same when I make them. She's got that special grandma touch, you know what I mean? Are there any special recipes that are passed down in your family? What was your favorite thing from your grandma's kitchen?
