I lovvvveeee this cookbook! Not only is it filled with completely insane Italian recipes, Lisa Caponigri based it on the premise that families who eat together stay together. I find it completely sad that the demands of today's crazy busy world leave most families scrambling in the evening ~ no time for eating together. Sad. Families are missing out on one of the greatest opportunities to build relationships.
Do you watch Parenthood? If not, you should! It's hysterical and as a parent, I totally relate to this show on so many levels. I love how the Bravermans make time on a regular basis to come together for meals. It is crazy to watch how this family's relationships unfold around the table. Conversation and laughter come naturally when we gather with those we love and the yummmmy food, well it's definitely a bonus. Working dad. Working mom. Busy kids - but in all this, we should be be able to find table time once a week. Lisa even gives five tips to help incorporate Sunday dinners into your weekly routine. On the back cover, Mario Batali says, "Sunday supper won't cure all of the world's problems, but those few minutes around the table can give children the confidence to thrive..." I know I'm not about to change how the universe works in one blog post, but maybe I can help entice families to the table with the amazing Italian food found in this book. In fact, there's an entire menu for every week of the year in this cookbook (no repeats). Each menu includes an antipasto (usually a crostini to pass at the table), A primo ( first course: usually a pasta, but may be a risotto, polenta, or a soup), a secondo (main course) served with a single contorno (side dish), and finally, dessert, like this Torta Siciliana, (orange and lemon tart).
